From his throne on the console, snug in a cushioned seat designed just for him, Cash surveys the world as it whizzes by. He’s only 3 ½ years old, but this Poochon pup has the seasoned air of a veteran road tripper. Most of the day, he’s curled up, dozing off, but always with one ear perked. The moment the RV decelerates, his eyes pop open, scanning the surroundings for any signs of a new adventure.

Cash’s excitement is palpable at every fuel stop. The moment the engine shuts off, his tail wags furiously—each stop means a chance to stretch his legs and explore. He prances about, sniffing every nook and cranny, his tiny paws padding eagerly on the unfamiliar grounds of each new location.

At the campground, his temporary kingdom is set by the picnic table, tethered safely but with enough freedom to feel the breeze and watch us set up our mobile abode. The moment the RV door swings open, and the stairs unfold, Cash is on his feet, tail a blur, eyes locked on the opening. As I unclip his leash, he darts inside like a bolt of lightning, making a beeline for the couch. After a thorough inspection to ensure everything inside is in order, he jumps up and settles down, waiting for the much-anticipated ear rubs.

With his ears tenderly massaged and his heart content, Cash gives a single bark—a clear signal he’s ready to explore the great outdoors of this new campsite. On his leash, he zigzags across the park, his small frame barely keeping up with his boundless curiosity.

As the sun sets and the evening winds down, Cash finds his spot between us on the couch, curling into a cozy ball of fur, a soft sigh escaping him as he drifts into sleep. But eventually, he migrates to his bed—which often means the middle of ours—long before we’re ready to turn in.

The last outing of the night is quick and purposeful. Cash does his business and then hurries back, eager for the comfort of the RV. With a running start, he leaps onto the bed, circling a few times before settling in the center, watching diligently as we ready ourselves for sleep.

Once we’re all tucked in, I drape a small blanket over him. In the quiet of the night, with the gentle hum of nature around us, we drift off, a family on wheels, with Cash, our little guard and companion, safely nestled between us, dreaming of tomorrow’s roads and adventures.
