For as long as we can remember, my wife and I have dreamed of hitting the open road to visit our kids, our grandkids, and to really see this beautiful country. Well, folks, dreams do come true! On May 7, 2024, we finally set off from Michigan in our trusty fifth wheel, and let me tell you, it’s been an adventure of a lifetime.
So far, we’ve laid our heads in many states for more than just a night or two—Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and South Dakota have seen us coming and going, and we’ve had some quick sleeps in West Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. Each place has its own story, its own charm, and we’ve soaked it all in, together.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re eager to revisit some favorites—North Carolina’s warmth, Florida’s endless beaches, South Dakota’s rugged landscapes, and Texas’s vast horizons are calling us back. But why stop there? We’re itching to add New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado to our list. There’s just so much out there to explore!
As I sit here, the week before Thanksgiving, I’m amazed at how we’ve spent almost the entire year living out of our fifth wheel—only three weeks were spent in a traditional home! We’ve clocked over 10,000 miles this year alone, and our rolling home is currently getting some TLC at Price Right RV in Dewitt, Michigan. They’ve got a fantastic service department, and even though I could probably handle the maintenance myself, why not leave it to the pros?
Currently, we’re not planning any new trips as I’m wrapping up my gig as the Technology Ambassador for HRC Realty, which keeps me pretty tied up. And let me tell you, the withdrawal is real! Meanwhile, my wife is on a cleaning spree at home, making sure everything’s just right.
You see, the internet’s full of folks telling you how to live the RV life “the right way.” But from what I’ve learned—both on the road and off—it’s best to march to the beat of your own drum. So here’s a little nudge from me: don’t just dream about it or make endless plans. Grab your partner, or your friend, or just go solo, but go out there and live it. Experience this wonderful world and cherish what’s around you. After all, life’s too short for just “what ifs.” So, what are you waiting for?
