Few cities have surprised us quite like Greenville, South Carolina. We originally planned to spend a day or two exploring before moving on. Instead, Greenville kept drawing us back. That’s one of the things we enjoy most about traveling in our fifth-wheel—there’s no need to rush. Every return visit uncovers another park, another great restaurant, another scenic trail, or another friendly conversation with a local.
It’s hard not to fall in love with Greenville the moment you stand beneath Liberty Bridge as the Reedy River tumbles over the rocks below. The view, especially as evening settles in and the bridge begins to glow, captures everything that makes Greenville so memorable.
If you’re planning an RV trip through the Southeast or simply looking for one of the best weekend getaways in South Carolina, Greenville deserves a spot on your travel list. From waterfalls in the middle of downtown to miles of scenic biking trails, this city blends outdoor adventure with Southern hospitality in a way that’s difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it yourself.
Falls Park on the Reedy: The Heart of Downtown Greenville
No visit to Greenville is complete without spending time at Falls Park on the Reedy. Imagine standing on a graceful pedestrian bridge while waterfalls tumble beneath your feet—all in the middle of a vibrant downtown.
The park covers more than 30 acres and serves as Greenville’s centerpiece. Beautiful gardens, shaded walking paths, public art, and plenty of benches make it easy to slow down and simply enjoy the surroundings.
The star attraction is the Liberty Bridge, a unique suspension bridge that seems to float above the Reedy River Falls. It provides one of the most photographed views in South Carolina, and it’s easy to understand why.
Whether you’re visiting in spring when flowers are blooming or during fall when the leaves explode with color, this park never disappoints.
Unity Park Shows Greenville’s Bright Future
One of Greenville’s newest treasures is Unity Park, a remarkable 60-acre green space built to reconnect neighborhoods while creating an inviting place for everyone.
Families will appreciate the enormous playgrounds, splash pads, basketball courts, and wide-open lawns. The park also connects directly to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, making it easy to continue your adventure on foot or by bicycle.
One feature we especially enjoyed was The Commons, where you can grab coffee, enjoy tacos, rent bicycles, or simply relax while watching families enjoy the park.
Unity Park isn’t just another city park—it tells a story of Greenville’s commitment to preserving history while building an even stronger community.
Ride or Walk the Famous Swamp Rabbit Trail
If you enjoy exploring at your own pace, the Swamp Rabbit Trail is one of Greenville’s greatest attractions.
Stretching more than 28 miles, this paved multi-use trail winds through parks, neighborhoods, forests, and downtown Greenville before continuing north toward Travelers Rest.
Along the way you’ll discover:
- Scenic river overlooks
- Local coffee shops
- Breweries
- Picnic areas
- Public art
- Restaurants
- Bike rental locations
You certainly don’t have to ride the entire trail. Even a short walk provides a wonderful glimpse into why Greenville consistently ranks among America’s most livable cities.

There’s something special about minor league baseball.
The atmosphere is relaxed, families fill the stands, and everyone seems to be having fun.
The Greenville Drive, the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, play at beautiful Fluor Field, one of the nicest minor league stadiums we’ve visited.
The ballpark even features a miniature version of Boston’s famous Green Monster.
Friday night games often end with fireworks, while promotions throughout the season make every visit enjoyable whether you’re a baseball fanatic or simply looking for an entertaining evening.
Sports Fans Have Plenty More to Cheer About
Greenville’s sports scene extends far beyond baseball.
Depending on when you visit, you can also catch:

- Greenville Swamp Rabbits professional hockey
Each offers affordable family entertainment and enthusiastic local fans who truly support their hometown teams.
Tour the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum
Baseball history comes alive at the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and Baseball Library.
Located in the restored home where the legendary player once lived, the museum sits just across from Fluor Field.
Inside you’ll find:
- Personal memorabilia
- Historic photographs
- Baseball artifacts
- Research collections
- Stories surrounding one of baseball’s most fascinating legends
Outside, don’t miss the bronze statue honoring Shoeless Joe near the stadium entrance.
If you appreciate sports history, this stop is well worth adding to your itinerary.

Craft beer enthusiasts won’t run out of options here.
Greenville is home to a thriving brewery scene with more than two dozen breweries scattered throughout the city and surrounding communities.
Many downtown breweries are within easy walking distance of one another, making it simple to sample several local favorites without constantly moving your vehicle.
Even if beer isn’t your first choice, many breweries feature excellent food trucks, outdoor seating, live music, and welcoming patios that make for a relaxing afternoon.
Downtown Greenville Is Built for Exploring
One of our favorite parts of Greenville isn’t necessarily a single attraction.
It’s simply walking downtown.
Wide sidewalks, tree-lined streets, unique shops, public artwork, inviting cafés, and friendly people create an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down.
Some cities feel busy.
Greenville feels comfortable.
You’ll often discover small hidden courtyards, local boutiques, and restaurants simply by wandering a block you hadn’t planned to visit.
Those unexpected discoveries are often the best memories.
Returning to Camp Never Gets Old
One thing we’ve learned after more than 50 years of camping is that sightseeing doesn’t always require eating every meal at a restaurant.
After spending the day exploring Greenville, there are evenings when returning to our fifth-wheel feels just right.
Vicky has a wonderful way of making that happen.
There’s nothing quite like opening the RV door after a full day of walking and being greeted by the aroma of Chorizo Lasagna that’s been slowly cooking in the crockpot all afternoon. While everyone else is waiting for a table downtown, we’re putting up our feet, enjoying dinner together, and planning tomorrow’s adventure.
Those quiet evenings at the campsite have become just as memorable as the places we visit.
Final Thoughts
Greenville has found a way to balance modern growth without losing the welcoming personality that makes people want to return.
Waterfalls flow through downtown. Miles of trails invite you outdoors. Baseball, breweries, museums, parks, shopping, and outstanding restaurants all sit within minutes of one another. Add Southern hospitality, a walkable downtown, and nearby RV parks, and it’s easy to understand why Greenville continues appearing on “best places to visit” lists year after year.
We certainly haven’t seen everything Greenville has to offer, and honestly, that’s part of the appeal. Every trip gives us another reason to come back.
